The Harley Rat
What is a Harley? This is a Harley (click) !!! Debbi Needham (the famous Odd Fellows Rattery), the founder and breeder of the rat to the left, is also somewhat of a legend in the rat fancy.
The Harley is the "Rocker" of the Rat world. Its long wispy fur gives the appearance of always "rocking out." But it's their temperaments you really fall in love with -- friendly, bright and insatiably playful.
As there is a lack of Rat Fanciers' clubs or showing circuits in this part of the country, Harley breeding has been limited to the USA. While vacationing there I acquired my own Harleys from California, the 'Mecca' of all rat breeding, which I admit I am partial to since all my healthiest and longest lived rats came from there, some which lived over 4 years old.
In addition to being new, Harleys are also exceedingly rare, as many breeders prefer to work with colors and markings than coats. Although their genetics are reputedly difficult to work with, having graduated in Anthropological Science, followed by 20 years working in the animal industry and training, I believe I have the education and experience to take on the challenges of a new breed.
